Message Sniffer
What is Message Sniffer?
Message Sniffer is a high performance message scanning engine that uses advanced pattern recognition and collaborative machine learning technologies to accurately identify spam and email borne security threats (viruses, malware). The engine is designed for high-speed, high-availabilitly applications on many platforms including Windows, Linux and BSD based systems. A professionally managed rulebase is provided via subscription and is updated frequently throughout the day (24x7) by analysts and intelligent monitoring systems.
Message Sniffer accurately captures more than 99% of spam, viruses, and malware without tuning. This is not marketspeak! This statistic is calculated by our monitoring system using data from spamtraps, user spam submissions and a comparative analysis with several dozen high quality spam tests. (Typ capture rate 99.4% of spamtraps averaged over 24 hours - 20090428).
How Does it Work?
Message Sniffer is about raw power, reliability, and effectiveness. The Message Sniffer engine requires no "training period" and does not rely on DNS based spam blocking lists (DNSBLs) or external database lookups which can be slow to respond and can introduce heavy loads to critical network infrastructures.
The Message Sniffer engine integrates with your email filtering system and identifies pattern matches which indicate that messages are likely to contain unwanted content. This allows you to leverage existing infrastructures and build effecitive filtering systems that meet your specific needs. In addition there are a number of SNF compatible spam filter and gateway products that can be used to protect your mail server.
Message Sniffer's adaptive, comprehensive scanning engine examines an entire message and it's structure searching for combinations of spam, virus, and malware features including unusual headers, structural artifacts, message source behaviors, obfuscation techniques, email and url targets, binary and image signatures, unusual code fragments, and even coding styles.
While training is not required, the Message Sniffer engine does become more accurate and more efficient over time by learning new patterns from your system and sharing pattern rule and IP reputation data with other SNF nodes using advanced real-time collaborative machine learning technologies. Each SNF instance is a small part of a much larger "brain" that constantly learns about new spam, viruses, and malware.
What Can I Use it With?
Message Sniffer hooks into your email server and works with many popular spam filter and email gateway products. Some of these are:
| IMail (ICS)/Declude | eWall |
| IMail (ICS)/mxGuard | MDaemon |
| SmarterMail/Declude | Postfix |
| SpamAssassin | ORF |
| VopMail | MailEnable via MXSCAN |
| DakMailSecurity |
In addition to these platforms we partner with a number of vendors to provide OEM versions of SNF for filtering service providers, antispam appliances and firewalls, email gateway products, and more... We are hard at work adding support for new platforms. If you would like to use SNF in your system or you have a suggestion on how we can improve SNF please let us know!
If you think your email provider can benefit from using Message Sniffer please let them know!
