How do I know how many Sniffer licenses (subscriptions) I need?
You will need one authorized instance for each copy of Message Sniffer you will be running on your equipment. You may use your same license id & auth code on multiple machines, once you have purchased the correct number of license instances. You can also add more than one rulebase (license) if you have a special configuration and intend to run more than one version of your rulebase.
If you're not using sniffer on your gateways then you don't need additional licenses. If you are going to be using sniffer on your gateways then you will need a license for each.
It seems to me this might be confusing... so I'll try a couple of scenarios.
- One server running Sniffer and no gateways = one license.
- One server running Sniffer and two gateways not running Sniffer = one license.
- One server not running Sniffer with two gateways each running Sniffer = two licenses (one for each gateway). For example, the gateways might use Sniffer to add headers which would be interpreted by the main MX.
- One server and two gateways all running Sniffer = 3 licenses. Each box has it's own copy.
