Sendmail is a widely used open source MTA on the Internet.

The best way to integrate Message Sniffer with Sendmail is through our milter - SNFMilter. This provides the ability to reject many messages during the SMTP conversation and/or to inject X-headers that indicate the scan results. These X-headers can then later be scored by SpamAssassin or used in other email processing rules to affect the delivery of the messages.

Many sendmail systems are already integrated with SpamAssassin. In these systems SNFMilter can be used along with additional rules in SpamAssassin that add scores for X-headers injected by SNFMilter. (You will have to create these rules to suit your needs. You can also customize the X- headers that are added by SNFMilter).

Another way to integrate Message Sniffer with Sendmail + SpamAssassin is to use our SpamAssassin plugin: SNF4SA. This method does not allow you to reject messages during the SMTP conversation, however, it does provide a comprehensive analysis of the messages that are scanned. SNF4SA creates two additional test scores in SpamAssassin -- one for the IP reputation of the source IP and another based on the content scan results.
